Department Specific Functions

The SCCC Sr. Research Associate 3 performs statistical and analytical functions for the FCDS Research Division and DOH Cancer Registry Program. Respond to all routine and ad-hoc research requests from external researchers and the Florida Department of Health including research collaboration. Produce the Annual Cancer Report for the Florida Department of Health. Perform trend studies on the statewide cancer data using R, Stata, and/or SAS. Perform linkage studies using probabilistic and deterministic linkage methodology. Contribute to the production and publication of the annual FCDS monograph. Topics to be chosen in coordination with FL DOH Collaborate with other research staff, FCDS staff, and subcontracted providers in designing and implementing web-based data dissemination and educational programs for researchers using FCDS cancer data. Assist in preparing written reports, grant applications, manuscripts, and other related technical papers, as needed. Assist in preparing presentations (i.e., charts, graphs, slides, presentation graphics, and posters) summarizing research/education-related findings, and other FCDS results as assigned. Present findings to FCDS staff, annual meetings, and state and public health officials. Analyze, summarize, and interpret data using R, Stata, and/or SAS, following standard survey, epidemiological, and educational research methods. Manipulate large, complex data files. Perform other duties as assigned.

Department Specific Qualifications

Education:

MA/MS degree or higher in Epidemiology, Statistics, Computer Information Science or another related field.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years' relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • 3+ years effective work-related experience including proficiency in statistical packages SAS or Stata, or R required.
  • In-depth knowledge of database packages such as SQL code in ORACLE database environment preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of cancer registration, management and treatment preferred.
  • Experience providing statistical/data analysis support to researchers preferred.
  • SEER Stat experience a plus.
  • GIS experience a plus.
  • Excellent skills in English (both written and oral) required.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Ability to work independently.
