What you'll do...

As a Senior Data Scientist on the Supply Chain team, you'll be based in Bentonville, AR and will provide strategic and analytic support for the supply chain business, product managers, operations and merchandising teams at Sam's Club. You'll focus on using data and analyses to uncover problems and inform critical business decisions.

To accomplish this, associates must think critically and create efficiencies, using data and experience to overcome complex challenges. We invite you to join the Sam's Club Supply Chain Team; a quick moving group of motivated individuals with skills ranging from data analytics to strategy and execution. Together we will design the supply chain of the future and improve our members' lives.

What you'll do...

  • Understand Business Context: You'll work with supply chain leadership and business stakeholders to understand strategic plans and requirements as well as current and anticipated pain points. You'll develop hypotheses to solve these complex business issues that can be tested with data analysis and models.
  • Identify data sources and scenarios for your business: You'll categorize and extract relevant data to perform initial data quality checks.
  • Formulate Technical Solutions: You'll translate the business problems to data related or mathematical solutions, conduct exploratory data analyses, identify and leverage appropriate methods / tools to provide a solution and share use cases / examples to demonstrate how it would solve the business problem.
  • Drive the data strategy: You'll define, articulate and apply the strategy that's driven by data enabled insights / decisions to unlock the monetary value of data assets.
  • Build, Assess & Validate Models: You'll select the analytical modeling technique most suitable for the problem, engineer the inputs and features, layer predictive and optimization models, test and tune models and model ensembles to assess optimality, accuracy, validity, and robustness.
  • Develop & Test Code: You'll write and test code to develop solutions and application features.
  • Deploy & Scale Models: You'll build prototype solutions with the analytical models, deploy them to production in a scalable and sustainable manner.
  • Build Data Visualizations: You'll develop data visualizations to explore data, model outcomes, and business scenarios. You'll build and deploy dashboards, and define the workflows for users to gain insights and take appropriate business decisions and actions.

What you'll bring...
  • A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, optimization models, or related field, 6+ years preferred.
  • Experience in data source identification, working with database technologies, distributed datastores (e.g. SQL, NoSQL) and existing business systems and processes.
  • An understanding of business value, data relevance, and appropriate application of the data ecosystem including data management, data quality standards, data governance, accessibility, storage and scalability, etc.
  • Knowledge of variable and feature impact on model performance and understanding of servers and formats for model storage
  • Use of coding languages like SQL, Python, R and others to run data analyses and develop models.
  • Use of Operations Research optimization techniques (e.g. Linear Programming, Integer Programming, Quadratic Programming, etc.) as well as other classical optimization techniques (e.g. Newton-Rapson methods, Gradient descent) and familiarity with commercial solvers (e.g. CPLEX, Gurobi)
  • Exploratory data analysis techniques and advanced statistical method modelling (e.g. graphical models, Bayesian inference, basic level of NLP, neural networks, SVM, Random Forest etc.).
  • Comfort level with model fit testing, tuning, and validation techniques (e.g. Chi square, ROC curve, root mean square error etc.)
  • Familiarity with multiple data visualization tools (i.e. Python, R libraries, GGplot, Matplotlib, Plotly, Tableau, PowerBI etc.) and use of advanced visualization techniques to communicate and influence.
  • Experience in analytics consulting, data-based storytelling and presenting findings to business teams in a relatable way.
  • Deep expertise in analytics / big data analytics / automation techniques and methods

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
