SBA Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for leading business development with a primary focus on SBA lending and deposit growth while maintaining market leadership presence in the local community. The SBA BDO is responsible for aggressively soliciting and servicing prospective and current clients producing SBA 7a and 504 as well as maintaining relationships with outside and inside referral partners, while seeking new accounts through calling efforts, marketing, and referrals. Consistently gains the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity. Representing the Bank in local community organizations with the purpose of promoting the Bank image as well as uncovering potential business opportunities. The SBA BDO helps create the energy and excitement around Amerant Bank products by uncovering customers' needs with the support of their team members to provide the right solutions. Achieving deposits and loan growth targeting Small Businesses.

Responsibilities:

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE:

  • Utilize BTB / nCino application to input new loans, renew existing loans and use the workflows to analyze, underwrite and recommend loan applications. Utilize B2B / nCino application for servicing, booking and funding loans.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
  • Provide quality customer service to all current and prospective customers as measured by Bank service standards.
  • Deliver customer experience for all segments to ensure quality customer experience every day every time.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:
  • Possess knowledge of the SBA 7A & 504 loan programs, products, and services.
  • Originate sufficient volume of SBA Loans (7A and 504) based on Bank’s goals.
  • Establish strong referral network and relationships with commercial real estate brokers, loan brokers, CPAs and other referral sources to solicit new SBA loan leads.
  • Direct calling on referrals from inside and outside bank partners in a direct effort to develop new loan business and documenting via salesforce.
  • Participate in joint sales calls with Relationship Managers discussing loan opportunities with clients & prospects.
  • Attend networking/social events and provide marketing material to identify referral sources.
  • Attend SBA Dept training (including NAGGL/7a & FLAGGL)
  • This position requires consistently meeting or exceeding deposit and loan sales goals as defined by management at a personal and team level.
  • Interviews loan applicants and collects and analyzes financial and related data to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request.
  • Work with the business line in the packaging of SBA loans, along with the submission of said loans to underwriting or the Bank’s Lender Service Provider (LSP), and being the liaison with the business line, LSP, and the SBA.
  • Work with Business Banking and Commercial & Commercial Real Estate customers to obtain SBA 504 loan authorizations for commercial real estate and fixed asset equipment loans with local SBA Certified Development Companies (CDC) and to coordinate payoff of 2nd mortgage loans with the CDC and borrower.
  • Work with customers throughout the application and closing process.
  • Maintain working knowledge of lending related legal and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Participate in regular sales and marketing meetings and events to promote the bank’s products and services.
  • Partner with other all lines of business to maximize opportunities and expand customer relationships with the Bank. This requires the ability to establish and manage peer relationships.
  • Represent the Bank in local community organizations with the purpose of promoting the Bank image as well as uncovering potential business opportunities.
  • Encourage and assist banking center staff in fostering relationships within the community which support the Bank brand and provide business development opportunities.

  • Ability to work in different assigned banking centers within the region.
  • Cooperates with superiors, peers to accomplish team and Bank goals.

Minimum Education and/or Certifications Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, banking, finance or accounting or at a minimum 5 years as a SBA BDO.

Minimum Work Experience Requirements:

3 to 5 years banking experience in the areas of SBA, financial operations, sales, and credit analysis. Strong financial analysis and underwriting skills.

Technical and/or Other Essential Knowledge:

Oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish preferred. Organizational and sales skills are required in order to establish and maintain excellent interpersonal and institutional relationships. The job requires the knowledge and the ability to make credit assessments. Knowledge of Business Banking products and services is required. Must be knowledgeable of operations and credit guidelines and policy; follow Credit Policy and Procedures Manual. Also must be knowledgeable in BSA and other Banking regulations, financial statement analysis, loan documentation and administration. Previous experience with Outlook, Teams, Internet and MS Office Skills, including MS Word Advanced, MS Excel Advanced and MS PowerPoint Level II required. Experience with Salesforce and/or nCino is preferred.
