About This Job

The main purpose of this job is leading the development of and execute on the sales strategies for the organization specific to our in-market sales efforts. Strategies will be built in conjunction with the overall goals of the Commercial Payments / Card Department to enhance Commerce Bank's profitability through building new relationships and enhancing current ones. Managers are responsible for recruiting, hiring and providing sales leadership to team members (Sr. Account Executives) who sell Commerce Bank's Commercial Card products. This includes our Accounts Payable Automated Invoice Processing, Workflow Approval and Payment Solution. Number of employees can range from 2 to 10 focused solely in payments-related entities.

This individual must possess strong leadership skills including planning, organizing, decision making, team development, training and coaching. In addition, the Manager must be able to help Senior Account Executives through complex sales that involve competitive selling situations, pricing and legal negotiations, underwriting (credit) challenges and technical knowledge to help close business.

Coaching and Development and direct feedback are required in order to enhance selling skills to ensure their employees are achieving their annual goals. While Managers are responsible for helping the Account Executive develop and execute their individual Territory Plans, they are responsible to make sure that each Account Executive is meeting their Standard of Performance (prospecting calls, appointments, vendor analysis) numbers as well as their Annual Performance Goals and Objectives (sold volume, net contribution and sold contracts). In order to achieve this objective, the manager must have good time management, communications and sales skills. They will also be responsible for properly using Commerce Bank's Pricing Model, complying with Underwriting Guidelines, and ensuring that they are knowledgeable about the products and services offered by Commerce Bank. The Managers and their team are responsible for ensuring a professional sales process, proper pricing, contract negotiations and the development of an implementation/conversion plan for each sale.

Many of the responsibilities of this position require accurately completing forms, contracts, incentive documentation, sales reports, Performance Appraisals, approving expenses and other administrative tasks within specified time limits.

A significant amount of travel is required.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for managing direct team and executing on sales objectives, providing ongoing coaching by establishing 1-1 sessions and participating on prospect sales calls
  • Ensure sales cohesion between teams as verticals and specialization can overlap separate teams
  • Utilize Insight360 automation tools and enforce the use of these tools with team members for pipelines, tracking and lead development and distribution
  • Define and implement specific campaigns and/or incentives that drive desired behavior/results
  • Monitor sales team activity and performance ensuring profitability
  • Maintain knowledge of competitor offerings and pricing, including new trends and developments in the industry
  • Lead, mentor and motivate team members to implement the department strategy and manage department workflow with guidance on departmental projects/issues, and provide coaching and development opportunities appropriate to each direct report's individual needs
  • Perform all necessary management functions, including hiring, evaluations, annual increase allocations and disciplinary action as required
  • Communicate decisions, priorities, and relevant information to team members effectively
  • Support budget management, planning and expenditure
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Strong knowledge of the Commercial AP and Card industry, including best practices, products and services implemented
  • Strong presentation and organizational skills Proven sales skills, including the ability to negotiate large company contracts
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to apply discretion and sound judgement to efficiently and effectively solve problems
  • Ability to drive results and balance management of organizational risk and meeting sales metrics
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and foster a positive team environment that gives way to collaboration and unified goals
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the company, clearly expressing ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing
  • Courage to make appropriate changes and implement new initiatives that deliver consistent sales results and accelerates revenue growth

  • Intermediate to Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 5+ years of sales management experience specific to the Commercial Payments required, preferably within a remote capacity
  • 5+ years of specific commercial card, commercial lending, merchant bankcard or sales experience in the areas of sales, marketing and accounting required
  • 3+ years business to business sales or support experience required
  • Established network within the Payments industry preferred
