Purpose of Position

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is seeking an instructor starting August 16, 2024.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of North Dakota (UND) seeks a part-time instructor to teach courses in American Sign Language. The American Sign Language course will be offered in-person, on-campus in fall 2024. This position may be offered again in spring 2025, contingent upon enrollment, funding, and satisfactory performance.

The Department offers undergraduate and graduate master's degree programs in communication sciences and disorders. The department currently has eight full-time and four part-time faculty members, and a state-of-the-art clinic facility. The department typically has about 80 undergraduate and 40 graduate students enrolled.

Duties & Responsibilities

Course instruction of CSD 103 (American Sign Language I), 3 credits.

Required Competencies
  • Excellent communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching via online delivery in future.
Minimum Requirements
  • Certified Deaf Interpreter Certification, National Interpreter Certification, National Association of Deaf Certification, lived experience, or an advanced degree in education, speech-language pathology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching American Sign Language.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with instruction of other American Sign Language Courses including American Sign Language II or Introduction to Deaf Studies.

Work Schedule/Start Date: August 16, 2024, to December 31, 2024

Estimated hours per week are 6 - 8.
