Sonographer may perform obstetrical, gynecological, and fetal echocardiogram ultrasound examinations as ordered at all ambulatory and inpatient care sites and other outreach sites.
Position Summary
The employee in this position is a part of the health care team performing Ob/Gyn ultrasound examinations, documenting, and relaying examination findings to the appropriate physician and referring facilities. This sonographer utilizes electronic systems to capture images and document findings. The sonographer provides educational opportunities to residents, MFM fellows, and sonography students. The sonographer must be certified by the ARDMS for the specialty Ob/Gyn examination. This individual will be required to have or obtain the following certifications; CLEAR, Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone by the Perinatal Quality Foundation or the Fetal Medicine Foundation, USA.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound school. Individual needs to be registry eligible or certified by the ARDMS in OB/GYN. If registry eligible, sonographer must become certified in OB/GYN by the ARDMS. Previous ultrasound experience is preferred but not necessary
Ongoing: Maintains registry & certification status; meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements. Sonographer will become certified in first trimester screening examinations such as nuchal translucency and nasal bone. (NT/NB) Demonstrate competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.

Supervisory Responsibility: None
Contacts: Interacts with physicians, patients, visitors, students, all members of the health care team, and non-clinical hospital staff. Individual will work closely with the clerical, nursing, physician, and management personnel.
Responsible to: Imaging Manager of Women's Imaging
Physical/Visual/Mental Requirements
- Able to communicate clearly with physicians, patients, and co-workers
- Able to operate ultrasound equipment independently
- Able to concentrate and pay attention for periods of time up to 8 hours
- Able to respond to emergency signals and indicators
- Able to operate computer systems
- Able to move supplies and equipment
Work Environment
The work environment involves risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and other safety regulations. This work may involve exposure to blood and body fluids necessitating the use of gloves, gowns, and other personal protective equipment. The employee may be handling various cleaning agents.
