JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is currently seeking an intermediate level Mechanical Engineer candidate with design and analysis skills and experience in utility and industrial boilers. A successful candidate must be a highly motivated self- starter with the ability and drive to solve problems.

*Hybrid and or Remote work options are available with this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proficient at interpreting and analyzing operating data of operating units for subsequent boiler modeling.
  • Utilize in-house engineering programs to evaluate performance of existing units based on operating data for trouble shooting or more in-depth analysis of utility and industrial boilers.
  • Utilize in-house engineering programs to simulate, optimize, and design modifications to utility and industrial boilers.
  • Conduct performance calculations to determine draft loss, MAWP pressure, steam drum internal sizing, circulation analyses, metal temperatures analyses, safety relief valve requirements, pump and valve requirements, etc. especially for utility and industrial boilers.
  • Perform ASME B&PV code calculations for tubes and pipes in preparation for proposals or contracts.
  • Review technical aspects of specifications with focus on design and performance issues to support proposal offerings, review vendor quotes for suitability in project requirements.
  • Write proposals for engineering studies and technical sections of proposals for component replacement including manhour estimates.
  • Interface with clients to understand their objectives for proposals and contracts.
  • Travel as needed to job sites for customer meetings, operating data collection, presentations, etc.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • 5 - 10 years' experience in Steam Plant Operations or Engineering with an emphasis on boiler technology
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize engineering principals in equipment design & performance
  • Knowledgeable of performing equipment performance modeling
  • Knowledgeable with Codes and industry standards (ex. ASME B&PV, NFPA, etc.)
  • Have Solid PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, strong technical writing and presentation abilities
  • Must pass drug screen, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Extra (would be a plus) Qualifications:
  • Capabilities in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computer aided design (AutoCAD), and other boiler applicable engineering software
  • Professional Engineer License preferred but not required
  • MS in Engineering
Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required. Note, this position will consider individuals with less experience than listed above but requires the willingness to expand skillset.
