Position description

Part time non-tenure track lectureships with Thurgood Marshall College, UC San Diego, will be available for the 2024-2025 academic year . Appointments vary from one to three quarters. Instructors will teach TMC 120 (Partnership Schools Program).

The purpose of this community-engaged learning course and the attached volunteership experience is to guide undergraduates in achieving a critical and reflective understanding of the impact of historical, systemic, and institutionalized inequities on educational opportunities for students who are underrepresented in four-year institutions in the United States. Specifically, the course readings, lectures, guest speakers, in-class dialogue, and out-of-class community-engaged learning focuses on the formal schooling experiences and outcomes of the student populations that are served by the Partnership Schools. The Preuss School UCSD and Gompers Preparatory Academy both enroll students of color (majority African American, Black, Chicanx, and Latinx), who are of low socioeconomic status, and will be the first in their families to attend a four-year university.

This course is organized as a small seminar. Students read and discuss items related to educational disparities, their causes and consequences, and efforts to address them in San Diego and nationally.
