Our Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking an HVAC Mechanic 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA.
As an HVAC Mechanic 4, you will be responsible for installs, services, modifies, rebuilds, and repairs air-conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment in an industrial or commercial establishment in accordance with applicable building codes and safety regulations. This role will require strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization, as well as the ability to prioritize, plan, organize, coordinate, and control assigned work.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs periodic inspection to locate and determine cause of equipment malfunctions;
  • Conducts maintenance program to prevent failure of such equipment as centrifugal compressors, electrical controls, evaporative condensers, pumps, fans, and heating equipment;
  • Charges air-conditioning systems with refrigerant, checks and tests for leaks, sets and adjusts controls and regulators;
  • Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork; overhauls equipment.
  • May service, modify, and maintain centralized HAC computer systems and make program corrections.
  • May be required to install and maintain high-technology clean room environments.


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in an HVAC service technician or similar role within a commercial and/or industrial environment.
  • Experience with compressor failure diagnosis, repair and replacement
  • Ability to retrofit obsolete components and systems including controls
  • Experience with Industrial Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Hot Water and Steam Heating systems (boilers, heat exchangers, coils and piping, service and installation of natural gas-fired equipment)
  • Experience working with 480 Volt/3 phase equipment, and electrical wiring including low voltage controls
  • Experience troubleshooting various types of HVAC equipment/systems, including modulating valves, dampers, motors, compressors etc.
  • Experience with electronic and pneumatically controlled HVAC systems and components, including BMS HVAC monitoring/control systems
  • Experience with refrigeration leak repair, testing, charging and recovery
  • Tridium/ Niagara logic knowledge
  • Ability to work on and inside equipment, including climbing ladders to access equipment on roofs in all weather, using man lifts, fork lifts and scissor lifts when necessary
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (word, excel, powerpoint, etc.) and other facilities related software required to perform job functions such as recording and documentation of maintenance records
  • Must have current Universal EPA 608 License
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with chillers with centrifugal, screw, reciprocating and scroll compressors
  • Experience with welding/brazing and leak checking with an electronic leak detectors, evacuating to industry standards and system charging
  • Journeyman, Master or HVAC Contractor license with industrial experience.
  • Specialized mechanical/electrical certifications
