The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans. Must possess a thorough technical knowledge of the trade in the area of responsibility, and a have a solid educational base, generally gained through successful completion of the Apprentice program or the equivalent in education and training. A candidate without an Apprentice Certificate or equivalent should have a minimum of 4 years trade experience, preferably with some exposure to production planning and support functions. The candidate must be able to supervise the work of others, motivate and train employees, and possess strong communication and interpersonal.

Additional common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001) and applicants should review the Charter and policies and procedures before applying for position.

Must Have

HS Diploma/GED and 4 years of craft experience; or Ingalls Apprenticeship. Must be a current Ingalls Shipbuilding employee.

Superior Attendance and Disciplinary Record.
Candidate cannot have more than 3 unexcused absences in the last 180 day period.
Candidate cannot have any safety DANS that result in a disciplinary layoff in last 180 day period.
Candidate cannot have more than 2 total DANS in the last 180 day period (excluding lost tool).
Documented leadership qualities / experience including:
Safety proponent

Timely completion of assignments

Nice to Have

Strong working knowledge of the ship construction process with emphasis on Machine Shop production. Knowing and understanding the traveler's system is preferred.
