Engineering Intern
American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)

ABS Interns are integrated into ABS business operations and will experience various aspects of engineering review, technical problem solving, and/or research and development. Interns will work with a designated advisor to learn and develop skills relating to ABS's core business functions while also assisting ABS with key deliverables. It is expected that interns will be assigned multiple projects for their respective departments throughout the course of their internship.

What You Will Do:

• Develop calculation sheets.
• Develop drawings and sketches.
• Develop engineering and computational models.
• Prepare spreadsheets and perform data analysis.
• Develop graphics, tables, and figures for reports.
• Provide assistance during blast testing.
• Provide assistance to entire staff, as needed.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

• Applicants must be working towards an engineering degree at an accredited school and have completed 50 semester hours towards that degree before the start of the internship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be available to work a full internship term (Summer: May-August).
• Basic engineering knowledge and proficiency in Excel and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited university and pursuing a BS, MS, or Ph.D. degree in one of the following engineering disciplines:

Working Conditions:

Part-time positions are based on a 16 to 20 hour week basis and hourly paid. Employment periods are scheduled on a full semester basis. Work will normally be performed in an office environment in San Antonio, Texas. Duties may include outside assignments which may include limited travel. Work tasks may involve manual labor in an industrial setting on an as needed basis.
