Who We Are:

Southwest Research Institute is seeking highly driven and skilled engineers for its Applied Power Division. Opportunities for this position will include designing analog and digital hardware.

Objectives of this Role:

  • We are seeking engineers for opportunities across multiple levels of hardware systems development.
  • Develop systems based around low-power microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, and/or ARM-based microprocessors.
  • Create unique sensor platforms for a variety of applications including EMI/RF detection and characterization, power systems metrology, machine vision, and air quality.
  • Integrate with other electronic platforms and peripherals such as single-board computers, ADCs, GPS receivers, servos, and RF transceivers (e.g., WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE, LoRa).
  • Opportunities also include developing and analyzing customer and systems requirements, proposing solutions, designing and implementing innovative hardware/software solutions and traveling to customer locations or remote test-sites.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Work independently and collaboratively in project-team environments.
  • Interface with other engineers, technicians, and project managers to ensure requirements of the system are successfully achieved in a timely manner.
  • Work on a variety of projects and/or current challenges in designing, building, debugging, and implementing electronics hardware.
  • Document hardware, software, create test procedures and document results .
  • Participate in requirements reviews, concept development sessions and technical design reviews.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering degree fields.
  • 0-5 years: Experience with circuit design; analog and/or RF design experience.
  • 0-5 years: Experience with microcontroller circuits.
  • 0-5 years: Experience in C/C++; proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
