Job Description

How you will make an impact:

As a Product Development Engineer at Thermo Fisher you will join the technology and product development team within our R&D department. We are a group of dedicated engineers and scientists working to design, implement, test, and validate innovative instruments used in measuring trace contaminants in ambient air and process gas streams. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of analytical instrumentation, and will appreciate how on-line analyzers can drive our customers' efforts to improve environmental quality and process efficiency!

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to design prototypes and test instrumentation used in detection and measurement of air pollution and for analysis of process gases.
  • Work with a variety of technology platforms based on mass spectrometry, UV/Visible and IR optical spectroscopy and other technologies.
  • Contribute to initial design, prototype assembly, laboratory testing product refinement and field testing.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, such as the US-EPA, work with certification bodies, such as UL and ETL, and collaborate with industry experts in environmental monitoring and process control.
How will you get here?

Education

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with a focus on electromechanical systems and instrumentation is required.

Experience
  • Five years of related research and development experience with a Bachelor's degree, or three years with a Master's degree.
  • Experience using CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Onshape.
  • Hands on experience using electro-mechanical devices like stepper motors, pumps, and solenoids and with test equipment such as signal generators, oscilloscopes and power meters.
  • Experience using computer-based data acquisition and test systems such National Instruments DAQ modules and LabView will be helpful.
  • Classroom training or experience in analytical chemistry and statistics will be advantageous.
  • Experience with 3D printing, metalworking or machining is preferred
  • A positive demeanor, excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required.
