We are looking for a passionate and self-motivated individual who enjoys challenges and variety to join our Distribution Engineering team and help us operate, optimize, and plan our future energy system. You will work on the integration of electric vehicles, renewable energy, and increasing amounts of automation and data analytics as we work to transition to the grid of the future. You will also be a part of implementing the company's Clean Energy Blueprint for Wisconsin.
This is a hybrid-remote position and will report to the office in Mineral Point, Spring Green, or Platteville, WI, depending on where the candidate resides. Travel is estimated to be 20%, only consisting of day trips to job sites and other field/corporate offices in our service territory. Candidates must reside in Wisconsin.
What you will do
In this role you will work both independently and with other engineers and employees to support operations, troubleshoot power quality and operational issues, review distributed generation interconnection applications, perform technical analysis related to system design and system protection, and plan improvements / modifications to our system to maintain affordability and reliability while it continues to evolve with the changing energy needs of society. You will help us achieve our goal of providing a modern and resilient grid that serves the needs of our customers safely, efficiently, and responsibly.

- Identifies, documents, and develops solutions to address insufficient system operating conditions and trends (e.g., low voltage, unusual flows).
- Develops short- and long-term replacement project plans for the regional distribution system.
- Specifies electrical power equipment and performs coordination studies of said equipment to minimize power outages and maintain reliable electric service.
- Interfaces with generation entities, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders while completing the technical review of distributed generation interconnect applications.
- Develops, maintains, and supports electric switching sequences.
- Identifies opportunities for improved analyses of electric system operations data and prioritizes, develops, and implements improvements, including automated tools for monitoring and reporting operations data.
- Participates in identification of issues, and researches, analyzes, and assists in resolving disputes and inquiries relating to abnormal system operation conditions.
- Provides technical guidance and support to electric field employees and field designers on new customer applications, electric standards, system back feeding, and other processes.
- Makes low-risk decisions that involve direct application of technical knowledge with guidance from more experienced engineers
Education- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission. An Electrical Engineer degree is preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Previous technical and/or professional experience
- An internship or co-op in engineering

- Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
