Position Summary

The Educational Program Coordinator will serve three major functional roles in the College of Human Medicine. As a community-based medical school, the college depends greatly upon community faculty not directly employed by Michigan State University to teach its students in clinical environments (precept) in communities throughout the state. The Educational Program Coordinator in Flint is responsible for assisting with recruiting clinical/adjunct faculty and establishing a collegial relationship with them, providing faculty educational development, and retaining faculty and clinical sites in the face of ever-increasing competition from new community-based medical schools in Michigan. This includes making site visits to new and non-teaching physicians in the community to assess interest in and encourage involvement with CHM-MSU, assessment for appropriate learning environments, informing physicians about curricular content, and serving as a liaison between the potential faculty member, the Community Assistant Dean, and the college's Human Resources office to facilitate faculty appointment. The Educational Program Coordinator may deliver faculty development in the field to current and prospective preceptors and residents, conduct regular clinical site visits to assess the learning environment, support faculty members, and perform needs assessments for further faculty development. The Educational Program Coordinator reports to the Community Assistant Dean. This position requires extensive travel in the surrounding community and to other College of Human Medicine communities. This position is located in Flint, Michigan.
