We are currently seeking a Director or System Architecture and Platforms to guide the development of product architecture and technical platforms for our measurement products that span several markets. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other senior managers in hardware, software, manufacturing, supply chain, and product management. You will be responsible for the design, developing and implementation of solutions that address complex technical and business issues, providing technical leadership to the engineering group. Your solutions will integrate precision measurement technology, advanced electronics, and IoT connectivity into a wide variety of interesting applications and markets. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Grow and develop a high performing team, while actively participating in the Engineering Leadership team with peers leading our other hardware product engineering organizations.
  • Strong thought leadership and ideation, with effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Lead system-level definition, development, implementation, integration, and launch of complex multi-disciplinary platforms to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Manage and raise critical issues to resolve conflicts and minimize impact to key initiatives (cost, time, reliability and availability, financial performance).
  • Drives best practices such as robust architecture reviews, understanding mission needs & influencing customer requirements, early specification development, performance analysis & allocation to subsystems, coaching hardware and sub-systems engineers.
  • Drive excellence and continual improvement in system architecture and engineering design processes.

Technical Oversight
  • Supports development and evaluation of complex system designs and architectures.
  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards; integrates suggestions, updates, and innovations into overall architecture and leads platform architecture process across business
  • Recognize opportunities for design reuse and componentization of modules. Evaluate make versus buy decisions. Lead tradeoff analysis.

Strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to develop deep understanding of the business and end user needs quickly, and can proficiently translate those needs into the right technology solution.
  • Stays abreast of latest developments in new technologies, including communicating with technical staff and product managers on trends and opportunities.
  • Act as a key resource in the development of technology roadmaps, identifying key near and mid-term technologies.
  • Identifies and evaluates new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships for alignment with technology roadmap and business value; creates plans for integration and update into architecture.

Communication
  • Be able to effectively communicate and articulate solutions and architecture at all levels of the organization, including senior management.
  • Develop key strategic relationships with potential internal and external partners, and lead the market outreach that generates feedback to guide the technology development.
  • Interface with business leaders and provide direction and guidance for technology road maps and presenting technical results to internal and external stakeholders.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, physics, or relevant technical field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product development for technology
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering team management
  • Experience in a chief engineer, systems engineer, or hardware architect role
  • Proven track record as a creative and innovative problem solver
  • Must have working knowledge across disciplines including: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, software, firmware, quality, production, and business operations
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and influence technical teams and individuals in addition to senior level management on technical direction
  • Strong modular/platform design experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both in informal encounters and formal presentation environments
  • Strong strategic and business acumen, ability to think and act from an overall best for the business perspective

DESIRED
  • MS or PhD in electrical engineering or relevant technical field
  • Measurement instrumentation design experience
  • Familiarity to connecting products to IoT (Internet of Things).
  • Experience with business and marketing strategy and execution.
