Director, New Business Development

The Director, New Business Development (NBD) will report to the VP of Development, Substrate, & Manufacturing. The NBD will lead Crystal IS activities to assess and define new markets and products for CIS UVC LED products and modules in HVAC and Air Treatment solutions. In this role, the NBD could have significant impact on bringing clean air to people in an energy efficient and environmentally sustainable approach. Qualified candidates are energetic, excellent communicators, with a history of successful market development in B2B and B2B2C markets.

This role requires the ability to both develop and execute an evidence backed growth strategy. You will be required to back up strategic insights with market evidence and then use that knowledge to support the business case development for new markets and products, drive positioning and messaging that resonates with buyers and empowers our sales channels to be successful. Curiosity, entrepreneurship, and a relentless focus on end user benefit are critical to your success, along with an ability to understand, apply and present our technology and potential products in a way that resonates with OEMs and end users.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Identify and validate new markets for UVC LEDs and Module products in HVAC and air treatment
  • Map, build and validate a business canvas that shows an effective channel to market.
  • Establish executive relationships with industry leaders and OEM/channel partners
  • Be a visible thought leader within industry communities
  • Champion and support the launch of new products and/or releases of existing products to targeted markets
  • Work with sales and marketing teams
  • Develop sales strategy and onboard new customers

Requirements
  • 10+ years of new market and business development experience with at least 5 years of experience in a senior customer-facing role (e.g. delivering presentations to executives, stakeholders, industry experts and prospects
  • Self-motivated and persistent curiosity in understanding customers' problem and identifying new market opportunity
  • Critical thinker and problem solver
  • Demonstrated track record of analyzing and sequencing new markets and products
  • Comfortable presenting and discussing engineering concepts/principles.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing effective executive relationships with technical and commercial decision makers
  • Proven ability to work in a matrix organization and cross-functional team-based environment.
  • Ability to manage through conflict and differences of opinion.
  • Self- directed with an ability to set priorities and achieve results through others.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, relationship-building, and people management skills.
  • Bachelor of Science or a related technical field. MBA and advanced degree preferred.
  • Must be a strong public speaker, comfortable in front of large, senior groups, and an excellent communicator.
  • Strong ability to quickly understand scientific concepts/data and be able to implement into feasible business opportunity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 15-20% of the time including international travel is required
  • Role is based at company Headquarters outside Albany, NY
