Your new company

My client is a recognized Construction Management and General Contractor based in Midtown Manhattan, and voted one of the top contractors in the city according to ENR. They focus on a mix of ground-up and interior renovation construction projects across the city. They are currently looking for a Cost Engineer to join their Pre-construction team solely due to the extent of project work they have in the pipeline, they are at a point in which they are having to turn away work.

Your new role

  • You will be involved across multiple projects for the purchase of materials and subcontracts from qualified vendors and subcontractors in accordance with the Contract Documents.
  • With Operations, create the general and special conditions, safety requirements and scope requisitions for the Project to ensure that the scope, schedule, M/WBE requirements, insurance and bonding requirements are clearly defined for the bidders.
  • Examine the plans and specifications for any deficiencies, construction issues, and technical questions and refer any findings to the Project Engineer.
  • Establish project bidding procedures, preparation, pre-qualifications and approval of bid lists ensuring acceptable to both the company and the client.
  • Prepare and issue Invitations to Bid and distribute Bid Documents to the approved bid list
  • Schedule pre-bid meetings, receive questions from bidders, and distribute Addenda, Bulletins, Information Letters, etc. during the bid period.
  • Receive bids, prepare spreadsheets, and conduct scope review meetings with competitive bidders.
  • Negotiate and issue recommendation for award to the Project Engineer.
  • Issue subcontracts and follow up for timely execution of the subcontract, receipt of insurance certificates, Payment and Performance bonds, and any other project specific items that must be submitted.
  • Maintain Purchasing Schedule and attend any project meetings as required.
  • Maintain current insurance certificates, bonds, and consent of surety for reserve reductions, off-site material payments and final payments.
  • Manage change order process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need to succeed

The successful individual will have a background in construction 2+ years specifically in the purchasing/cost management department with a complete understanding of project estimate, clarifications and assumptions, schedules and logistics. Working within a General Contractor previously would be advantageous. Applicants ideally will be degree qualified holding a construction related degree.
