We are currently looking for a Contract Wording Associate to join the Reinsurance Contract Wording department in our headquarters in Warren, NJ.

The successful candidate will provide legal and contract wording support to the Group's Reinsurance Division within a dynamic, fast-paced, business environment. The position is ideal for anyone who wishes to begin a non-traditional legal career within an intellectually challenging field.

Possessing excellent communication and analytical skills, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate flexibility becoming both a technical subject matter specialist and general business advisor.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Review and analyze the terms of new and renewal reinsurance agreements and other ancillary documents, verify agreed-upon terms, ensure that mandatory clauses are incorporated, revise or amend contracts, correspond with internal stakeholders, brokers and others as needed.
  • Draft contracts and ancillary agreements including, but not limited to, trusts, confidentiality agreements and indemnification and hold harmless agreements.
  • Advise on related areas of legal, regulatory, and business issues with respect to Everest's domestic and international reinsurance business including advice with respect to (re)insurance laws and regulations that may impact the review of reinsurance contracts.
  • Work with various other Everest departments in support of the Reinsurance Division (i.e., Underwriting, Claims, Law) as needed.
  • Provide support with other legal and/or contractual matters or special projects as needed.
  • Minimal travel required.

Qualifications
  • A J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree strongly preferred, but not required for any candidate with prior experience reviewing/ drafting (re)insurance contracts/ policies. Experience within a law firm and/or corporate legal department is a plus, but not required.
  • Interest and desire to grow within a corporate transactional law environment.
  • Highly organized, analytical, and business-solution-oriented attitude toward legal / contract issues.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to approach complex contractual issues with business sense and the spirit of entrepreneurialism.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects/priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Quantitative skills, and a basic understanding of insurance, reinsurance, or finance is a plus.
  • Fluency in German, Spanish or French is a plus.
