ECS is seeking a Communications Specialist to work remote.

Job Description:

NOAA Fisheries Office of Communications is seeking a new team member to track and manage strategic communications for important and challenging issues, such as offshore wind energy and Illegal Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. Preferably, the candidate would have previous strategic communications experience; however, that is not essential. What is essential is having good judgement, a team mentality, and a willingness to learn, as well as being collaborative and flexible.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Learning and keeping up with the issues as they evolve on a national and regional level.
  • Collaborating across offices, regions, and science centers to build a network around agency communications.
  • Gathering, developing, and clearing communications products on the issues.
  • Representing the Office of Communications at meetings on important issues.
  • Ensuring that accurate, timely information is available online.
  • Developing communications plans, campaigns, and products (including FAQs) targeting specific audiences. Audiences include commercial fishermen, recreational anglers, fish and shellfish farmers, the seafood and nutrition community, non-government organizations interested in marine life, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Working with managers and scientists to developing non-technical web content and presentations using a journalistic style of science writing. Conveying complex information to non-technical audiences (middle school and up) so that key messages are easily understood.
Salary Range: $50,000-$65,000

Required Skills:
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in project management.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Bachelor's in communications or science communication or science.
  • Public trust security clearance.
  • US Citizen.

Desired Skills:
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in project management.
  • Ability to understand complex business rules and translate into documented processes and procedures.
  • Fisheries knowledge and background a plus.
