Job Description
The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care is seeking a responsible, highly motivated, and enthusiastic candidate for the position of Clinical Research Coordinator B for the Cognitive Outcomes of Geriatric Surgery (COGS) study. The mission is to understand why surgery and general anesthesia cause both acute and long-lasting cognitive impairment in older adults. As such, we are interested in the impact of common geriatric conditions such as mild cognitive impairment and frailty in the development of postoperative delirium; the role of surgery-induced inflammation on cognitive outcomes; and whether surgery/anesthesia exacerbate occult pre-existing cerebral neurodegeneration.
This position will focus on achieving the aims of the COGS study to be accomplished by completing the following essential duties: assisting with the collection of data from interviews, focus groups, and clinical observations; assisting with data analysis; training student workers; completing timely data entry using paper or electronic CRFs; resolving data queries; assisting with study meetings; and performing other duties as assigned. This position will report administratively to the PI.
The Clinical Research Coordinator B is responsible for managing all aspects of the clinical research studies. Working under the general supervision of the PI, this position is responsible for recruiting and evaluating patients; collecting and organizing patient data; performing pre- and postoperative clinical screening such as memory and delirium testing; drawing blood samples; maintaining and updating data generated by the study; scheduling patients for follow-up study visits and calls; IRB applications; adherence to regulatory requirements; and training/leading other lab members in clinical research operations.
This position is contingent upon funding.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with 2-3 years of related experience in research and clinical study methodologies or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
