Boat Mechanic - $18.00/hour

Willow Beach, located within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and managed by Guest Services, is now hiring a Boat Mechanic for the 2024 Season! Knowledge on Mercury Engines is required.

The season starts on March 1st and goes through August 2024. This position has the potential to go from Seasonal to a Full-Time, Year Round position at the end of the season.

RV spaces will be available but very limited.

This position pays $18.00/hour.

JOB SUMMARY

The Marine Mechanic performs various marinemaintenance and replacement tasks assigned by the manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on all vessels.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures aboard vessels either in the harbor or on the lake.
  • Fill out chase call logs/reports.
  • Fill out repair reports.
  • Log and file repair work through the work order system
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Perform work in a manner protective of human health and the environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and environmental requirements
  • Participate in the achievement of environmental objectives and implementation of the environmental management system.
  • All other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
  • OMC certified (preferred) or 2 years marine mechanic experience.
  • Ability to drive and dock all vessels in the fleet.
  • Receive certification to perform muscle inspections and decontaminations on all vessels as needed.
  • Must be able to stabilize and balance on uneven and moving surfaces.
  • Ability to communicate well with customers under stress.
  • Knowledge of inboard-outboard marine engines and outboard motors
  • Knowledge of marine generators
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Knowledge of ISO/EMS Awareness, Hazard Communications, Hazardous Material Response.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work environment requires both inside and outside work in extreme heat in summer and cold temperatures in the winter.
  • Rough conditions could also be present with high winds, large waves.
  • Requires ability to step into and onto boats from docks and back to docks several times throughout the shift.
  • Rental boats and rafts are located on the water and reached by walking on docks with require motor skills to balance and stabilize on uneven moving surfaces.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit.
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to stand for the entire workday.
  • Working in wet and slippery conditions.
  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.

  • Hand tools including, but not limited to, electrical diagnostic tools.
  • Small Power Tools
  • Davit/boom
  • Chemical cleaners
  • Oils and additives
  • Out-drives, engines, and generators
  • VHF radio
  • Forklift
  • Flat Bed Truck
  • Trailers large and small
  • Power washer with 150 PSI and heated up to 200 degrees.
  • Welding machine based on certifications.
