Behavioral Health Consultant - Adult Psychiatry (7RC) 60%

7RC is separated into a 12 bed mood disorder unit and a 13 bed eating disorder unit. We will utilize an evidence based, patient-centered, interdisciplinary approach, with contributions from physicians, psychologists, advance practice providers, master level therapists, nurses, social workers, dieticians, occupational and recreational therapists, all striving to work collaboratively with patients and families to provide the best possible care. 7RC will feature a new collaborative position, behavioral health consultant, with the goal to elevate the patient and team outcomes. Evidence based therapeutic modalities utilized on the unit will include dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma informed care.

Areas of responsibility:

Patient and Family Centered care: Models and ensures appropriate interventions to improve patient and family coping in the context of medical illness.
Quality: Leads quality and process improvements that impact patient's mental and emotional health
Staff Education: Leads and provides staff education as appropriate. Serves as a mental health resource for staff through leading care conferences and problem solving sessions to improve patient care.

Percent of Time: 60%
Shift: 24 hours per week, Day/Evening Shifts, Sat/Sun
Location: Roy Carver Pavilion (RCP)
Rotations: Rotating holidays

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education or related field is required
Experience Requirements
  • Three or more years of direct experience working directly with individuals with challenging behaviors such as verbal and physical aggression, property destruction, or self-harm.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; including demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and experience leading and/or participating as a member of work teams and groups.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience using email, spreadsheets and word processing programs.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis and treatment with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or challenging behavior desired.
  • Experience with counseling such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Experience with CPI (Crisis Prevention
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations is desired.
Applicant selected for position, if external, must complete a 2 week orientation. Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM. Hours may vary based on department needs.
