About the Position:

Category manager utilizes procurement best practices to manage travel spending and develop strategies for University travel based on business needs and market conditions. Manage key vendor relationships and function as the University representative for travel agencies, expense management systems, and credit card merchants.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage Travel spending to include a Travel Category strategy and proposing updates to procedures and policy. Ensure compliance with University policy.
  • Administrative support to include monitoring travel balances, upload travel feed from travel & expense management system, and audit travel and expense reports.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate favorable pricing and delivery terms and award contracts for travel-related purchases, such as airlines and hotels.
  • Create and conduct training for reimbursement approvers and users and credit cards in general.
  • Provide customer service, including assisting University users with various on-line systems.
  • Assist with the buying function by handling low-dollar urgent requirements during peak periods.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's is required.

A minimum of three (3) years of office management experience (working with upper management and reporting to executive levels) is required.

Candidate with prior knowledge of travel and expense management systems is desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must be able to research, provide and implement solutions. Candidate that possess self-training, researching systems, developing rapport with other departments to aid in performing duties, and understanding directions is preferred.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
