Background information:

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Systems Engineer to be based at our headquarters in Arlington, VA.

Overview:

The selected Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing IDT's automated test and analysis for tactical systems and subsystems supporting DOD airborne platforms such as F-16, F-18, F-35, MQ-8, MQ-25, E-2D, Link-16, and Tomahawk. Prior experience with development and test processes of complex systems and embedded software is preferred.

All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Execute software life-cycle processes including requirements analysis, architecture definition, software design, code and test for the development of automated system testing capability
  • Create and maintain SysML artifacts to model system behavior
  • Manage small cross-site teams of software and/or systems engineers
  • Manage the day to day tasking to ensure the team works as an efficient unit
  • Identify and manage risk associated with technology development programs
  • Support structured process improvement activities
  • Serve as an effective liaison between the detailed tasking performed by the engineers and senior management
  • Prepare and deliver contractual deliverables
  • Manage development efforts to cost and schedule targets using standard cost account management processes including Earned Value Management Systems
  • Interface with customers for technical and programmatic items
  • Support business capture and proposal development opportunities
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the development of complex software driven systems for the DOD
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or Math; Master's Degree in Engineering or other technical field highly desired
Required Skills:
  • Ability to lead the logical and systematic conversion of customer or program requirements into solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Ability to work closely with Program Managers and Chief Engineers to document, manage and communicate systems and software requirements
  • Experience with DOD or complex commercial software product development
  • Experience with the development of processes and tools used to support analysis and test of product functionality and performance during development
  • Familiar with Agile development processes
  • Ability to lead teams of Software and Systems Engineers
  • Ability to interface with customers from both a technical and programmatic context
  • Ability to convert vague customer requirements into a refined vision and detailed tasking for a technical team
  • Ability to travel 10%
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with DOORS or other requirements management tools
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering/Mode Based Software Development using one or more of SysML, UML, UPDM
  • Experience with Rhapsody and/or MagicDraw is a plus
  • System integration and test experience for complex software applications including experience with various software testing tools (Selenium, SoapUI, Sikuli, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Air Force and Navy testing programs, practices, and assets
  • Experience with Air Force and Navy aviation platforms
