As Supervisor Materials I, you will be responsible for monitoring inventories of assigned items and placing re-orders on a timely basis to insure available quantities. Specific responsibilities may include securing raw materials and services for manufacturing and production, product and service sourcing, supplier selection, pricing/terms negotiation, order processing, contract administration, and supplier performance management.

Reporting directly to the Supervisor - Mateirals II, this position is based in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan*.

Major Accountability:

  • Ensures needed raw materials are available as needed to maintain production schedules.
  • Supervises para-professional employees.
  • Sets day-to-day operational objectives for team.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Delegates work assignments and provides guidance and direction to staff.
  • Ensures policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers and stakeholders.
  • Ensures materials and service suppliers meet visual quality, delivery, and service requirements.
  • Participates in initiatives to resolve quality, delivery or service issues with the supply chain; ensures issue resolution.
  • Maintains system and records of continuous cycle count program. Takes corrective action at root cause of variances.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement; develops ideas for improvement and participates in cross functional CIP teams.
  • Provides leadership as outlined by the Safety Management System including performing safety inspections, interactive observations, SLAM's, JSA reviews, and incident investigations. Train employees on safety procedures and policies.
  • Directs/instructs employees consistent with company policies and in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Supervisors hourly workforce in materials group.
  • Supports adherence to company policies and procedures.

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of Experience
  • Fundamental software applications skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) for the job being performed.
  • Work effectively with all levels of management and staff.
