Merakey is currently seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to join our Behavioral Health division in our Petersburg, VA location.


Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Counselor will provide screening, assessment, individual and group counseling, linking and coordination for clients at receiving Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT), Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), and non-MAT services.

The substance abuse counselor will facilitate individual and group counseling, complete and document all required information including but not limited to intake, admission, progress notes, QPRs,ISPs, etc., according to payors, licensing, and other regulatory governing entities.

Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, counseling, addiction services, or any approved human services or related field) with a certification in substance abuse (CSAC). Master’s degree preferred.

A minimum of one year of work experience in a health or human service agency in a drug and alcohol setting, with at least one year facilitating substance use groups.

American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) trained.
