OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY: Coordinate the planning, execution, completion, and inspection of designated construction and renovation projects involving Duke University Medical Center buildings and facilities; provide technical guidance and consultation in the review of project plans and resolve special construction problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coordinate and monitor the execution, completion and inspection of special maintenance, replacement, upgrading, and renovation projects of Duke University Medical Center buildings and plant facilities to include cost estimation and requisitioning of specialized equipment. Coordinate with department personnel and Prepare necessary plans and specifications to ensure efficient completion of projects.

Perform construction phase activities for both internal projects and assigned projects by external consultants working through the Design Office. These activities include shop drawing reviews for adherence to Duke University Medical Center Facility Standards, monitoring construction progress and providing field inspection reports, and assisting external consultants in resolution of construction issues as required to conform to design standards and maintain consistency with long term system operational strategies.

Provide technical assistance to Duke Community in planning proposed projects as needed.

Coordinate facility assessments with appropriate Engineering and Operations shop personnel to track capital projects and other infrastructure projects; maintain appropriate database on projects to insure up-to-date information regarding status to include budget requirements and impact.

Develop, implement and monitor energy conservation programs for Medical Center facilities; maintain liaison with building occupants to establish operation procedures consistent with energy conservation programs; plan and recommend changes to existing control systems to achieve cost effective and efficient energy consumption.

Conduct analysis of existing and proposed systems to determine energy efficiency and consumption; review plans, specifications, and equipment for renovation and new construction projects to recommend changes and modifications as required to ensure compliance with Medical Center standards, applicable codes, and University initiatives

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in a specific engineering field related to construction (e.g. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) and eligibility for North Carolina licensure as an Engineer.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of three years experience in design, planning, evaluation and project management related to new construction and renovation of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems for commercial buildings and/or systems.OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferences:

A degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.

Healthcare related engineering and construction experience is preferred.

Knowledge of appropriate computer software to include AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required.

Experience with healthcare related codes and standards is preferred.

Candidate must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
