Primary Purpose:

Identifies and investigates questionable claims, insurance transactions and other risks in order to provide assistance to internal and external customers, protect company assets and the company's policy holders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Receives referral of questionable claim/transaction and jointly creates an investigative Plan of Action with the referring party
  • Completes a thorough field investigation by collecting facts and evidence through the use of database checks, recorded statements with relevant parties and witnesses, and scene investigations
  • Documents and evaluates investigative findings, and communicates with the referring party
  • Provides recommendations to the referring party based upon investigative findings
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with state fraud reporting statutes

  • College Degree or a combination of equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • Strong investigative background with experience in the investigation of insurance claims/transactions or related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to process large amounts of investigative data in a timely fashion
  • Ability to travel on a frequent basis and work a flexible schedule

Desired Skills:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an investigator with a federal, state or local law enforcement agency, or multi-line claims handling experience within the insurance industry
  • Prior experience in the investigation of insurance fraud as an SIU Investigator

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job does not have supervisory duties

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an investigator with a federal, state or local law enforcement agency, or multi-line claims handling experience within the insurance industry
  • Prior experience in the investigation of insurance fraud as an SIU Investigator
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate electronic devices including computers, cameras and cell phones
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess effective skills in time management, organization, and the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to adhere to project deadlines and remain flexible in a changing environment
