Job Description

Our Customer Experience design group is looking for a passionate and exceptional Senior Visual Designer who will help us make beautifully crafted, world-class customer-facing experiences across multiple digital platforms. Our work touches millions of lives across web, mobile, in-vehicle, and wearable interfaces.

As a Sr Visual Designer, you will lead our next-generation user interfaces for GM brands by setting the visual language, designing new components and libraries, coming up with concepts and design artifacts that evolve our brands in unified ways.

Candidates should have experience researching, iterating, concepting, and producing digital user interfaces for mobile apps, web, and beyond. You can develop a unique digital brand character that is harmonious with the overall brand expression across multiple touchpoints throughout the customer journey. You will work on a team of multidisciplinary skills like researchers, product designers, and software engineers to synthesize design and functional needs into our next generation of user interfaces, controls, and experiences.

We're looking for a visionary Senior Visual Designer to help us set strategic design direction and craft products beyond meeting basic expectations to create unique, pure, and emotional experiences. The Senior Visual Designer will play a key role on our customer experience team through concepting, design strategy development, and branded user interface design. With a persistent focus on our customers, you will serve as the driving force behind creating meaningful connections with our customers through thoughtful design that's looks fantastic.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design leadership through influence, judgment, communication, and collaboration to drive design decisions across stakeholder groups
  • Collaborate closely with team members to craft a world-class user experience across all our products and platforms, being the champion of aesthetics and visual design principles
  • Create design deliverables including sketches, mood boards, storyboards, prototypes, icons, illustrations, animations, and high-fidelity designs
  • Conduct design critiques to guide design decisions
  • Contribute to the continued evolution of the team's workflows and processes to further improve quality and performance
  • Mentor/develop talent and a design thinking culture
  • Balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives to solve problems effectively

    Additional Job Description

    Requirements
    • 4+ years of experience creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels
    • Formal degree or training in Visual Design, Product Design, Interaction Design or related
    • Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in user interface design, craft, aesthetics, and depth of thought
    • Open to feedback, knows how to give and receive criticism, and how and when to defend design decisions
    • Demonstrated experience in developing dynamic presentations in support of design strategy
    • Experience working with research teams and applying insights into quick, iterative design improvements.
    • Strong visual communication skills
    • Develop/mentor junior talent within the team
    • Proficient in standard design tools like Sketch, Figma, Zeplin, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Proto.io

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Ability to create across a wide range of digital media (3D, 2D, animation)
    • Deep understanding of competitive automotive landscape
    • Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals
    • Prototyping experience (software and hardware development experience a plus)
