Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Join the Sanctions & Export Controls Compliance unit as a Sr. Manager at the No.1 Fortune 500 Company & world's largest retailer. This key role will support the Director of Sanctions & Export Controls Compliance on the governance and oversight of Walmart's Sanctions and Export Controls Compliance Program.

ABOUT THE TEAM:

The Program Management unit within Global Sanctions and Export Controls Compliance is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining a best-in-class Sanctions and Export Control Compliance Program Framework, including of Policies and Standards, implementation/assessment of processes and controls to detect and mitigate sanctions risk.

You'll sweep us off our feet if:

  • You are a subject matter expert in Sanctions & Export Controls laws and regulations (e.g., OFAC, ITAR, EAR, etc.)
  • You have prior relevant experience working for, or with a government agency (e.g., U.S. Department of Treasury, U.S. Department of Commerce) or leading interactions with government agencies (e.g., OFAC, BIS) as part of a prior role in the private sector (e.g., a multinational company, financial services company with global footprint, major e-commerce company, etc.), a legal/consulting firm, or a combination thereof
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in sanctions and/or export controls compliance experience, direct management experience a plus
  • You have prior experience in the design and implementation of Sanctions Compliance Programs with experience managing one or more key program pillars (e.g., risk assessments, training, internal controls, auditing and testing)
  • You have prior exposure / experience working with or leading sanctions screening teams, including conducting quality assurance reviews, or leading a quality assurance program
  • You have demonstrated ability to assess complex issues through root cause analysis, structure potential solutions and remedial actions (i.e., Corrective Action Plans), drive issues to resolution with senior stakeholders
  • You have and ability to influence and lead people across the organization at a senior level using sound judgment and successful execution, understanding how to operate effectively across a very diverse business and highly matrixed organizations
  • You have experience with internal or external control functions (Compliance Testing, Internal Audit) and/or regulators (e.g., OFAC, BIS). Experience in managing regulatory exams and relationships with examiners, or auditors will be a plus
  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging across teams and to senior leaders
  • You are comfortable navigating through rapid change and uncertainty and/or ambiguous environment and have a strong track record of effectively assessing and managing competing priorities
  • Knowledge of BSA/AML regulation and nexus to sanctions compliance a plus
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish a plus


You'll make an impact by
  • Designing, developing, delivering, and maintaining a best-in-class Sanctions Compliance Program Framework (e.g., Policy, Standards and Procedures)
  • Reviewing and updating the Policy and/or related standards and procedures, when necessary
  • Implementing mechanisms for the monitoring, identification, escalation, and mitigation of key sanctions risks
  • Monitoring Walmart's adherence to the Global Sanctions and Export Controls Policy, standards, and relevant procedures
  • Staying current on key Sanctions and Export Controls regulatory changes, key enforcement actions and related industry trends
  • Cultivate a culture of compliance, interacting with Senior Management to raise awareness of Sanctions and Export Control trends, emerging issues, remedial actions, or enhancements to the program
  • Lead the preparation of materials for governance committees
  • Providing advice to the markets and businesses on an ongoing basis on new business initiatives, new products, business acquisitions, and related matters with respect to applicability of the Policy
  • Leading GSC&E strategy Initiatives and key projects
  • Support the Director on the oversight of all Program Pillars (e.g., Training, Risk Assessment, Internal Controls, Auditing and Testing)
  • Responding to sanctions and export control compliance questions and issues; monitoring laws and regulations; directing research on laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; drafting and updating policies and standard operating procedures with input from leadership; communicating information to associates; monitoring sanctions and export control compliance questions for potential gaps; and recommending and developing strategies for identified sanctions and export control compliance gaps
  • Identifies, reports, and addresses sanctions and export control compliance concerns through analysis of trends; analyzing necessary data; creating reports on findings; communicating findings to senior leadership; recommending resolutions to the concerns; and completing follow up with field and home office based on findings in reports
  • Manages research on high-impact regulatory developments to serve as a subject matter expert to the business; identifying internal and external stakeholders likely to be impacted by changes to policies or provisions; researching global regulatory trends; leading impact assessments of proposed policies or provisions; and evaluating research and predictive trends to provide recommendations to leadership
  • Develops recommendations for corporate policy positions on various overarching issues by reconciling research into refined message for review; managing the analysis, reconciliation, and summary of background research; drafting statements in response to issues and concerns; and presenting impact analyses to leadership. Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects developing and communicating business plans and priorities; measuring progress and adjusting project plans accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability
  • Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
  • Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events
