Job Summary
Serves asthe health and safetytechnicalprofessionalatthe asset. Interpretsstate and federal regulations and providescompliance direction.Collaborates with site leaders to build safety culture by recommending changes to work conditions and procedures to improve the work environment and comply with all health and safety regulations.
What you will be responsible for
- Maintains knowledge of health and safety regulations and develops the skills necessary to interpret state and federal standards in order to provide compliance direction
- Inspects work environment for unsafe work procedures and hazards to ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
- Implements regulatory requirements as well as company health and safety policies and procedures
- Assesses compliance with regulatory requirements and company health and safety policies and procedures and progresses recommendations to strengthen programs
- Delivers safety perspective toProcess Hazard Analysis (PHA), coordinatesManagement of Change (MOC), participates inPre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), manages contractor qualification and directs safe work practices
- Supports operations during sequential and safety meetings presenting data and statistics to support regional goals and objectives
- Leads incident investigations ensuring root causes are identified
- Reviewsadequacy and closure of corrective action items related to incident investigations, audits, agency inspections, etc.
- Provides technical support duringhealth and safety/Process Safety Management (PSM)audits and serves as an audit team leader on division and corporate audits
- Coordinates industrial hygiene efforts for assetincluding exposure monitoring and assessments
- Promotes site physical security program
- Develops, coordinates, and conducts required health and safety training
- Authors various reports and presentations for dissemination to asset, division and corporate audiences
- Interacts with local communities to ensure positive and proactive relations are maintained
- Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree inOccupational Health and Safetyor a similar degree field,and/or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 5 years related experience is required although employees typically have 7-10 years; oil and gas industry experience preferred
- Prior experience with the Occupational Safety and Health Administrationpreferred
- Strong understanding of safety work practices and operational processes with a working knowledge ofPSMsystems
- Understanding of safety permitting processes (i.e. hot work, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, excavations, etc.)
- Proven leadership skills and ability to influence at a local level and across a broad organization
- Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Special Demands- This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc. Noise level is typically low. Frequently in a stationary, sitting position for prolonged periods of time. Regularly moves about inside the office to complete tasks, attend meetings or to access the copy machine or file cabinets. Periodically pulls/pushes doors open to move around the office. Occasionally may lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
- This job operates in both inside gas plant conditions as well as in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times. Regularly stoops, squats, kneels and crouches for durations up to 3 minutes. Periodically pulls/pushes doors open to move around the gas plant. Occasionally exerts pulling force of 130 pounds. Frequently may lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may climb A-frame ladders.
- Occasional travel will be required
