Position Information: Description

As a Senior Geoscientist this position is responsible for managing Geoscience, technical, and other projects for EERC Commercial, State, and Federal clients.

This position is located at the EERC, an international leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. The successful applicant will work closely with directors and other program/project managers, especially in the research area of geologic CO2 capture and storage, enhanced oil recovery, and other geoscience related research activities. The successful applicant will be able to lead $1,000,000 or more multitask type research projects in the geosciences; working with task leads and multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and business professionals. The successful applicant will assist in bringing project deliverables and milestones to completion; including working closely with task managers and being well qualified to review and offer constructive comments on technical reports and publications. The applicant will have the ability to stay apprised of the opportunities and challenges facing the energy industry and engage with stakeholders, partners and clients to inform on strategies and implement solutions that enable the prudent production and use of fossil energy.

The EERC is looking for an experienced, motivated, and market-oriented individual to contribute to the success of the organization by performing the following functions:

  • Assist EERC directors, principal leads, and project managers at a high level in the development of research plans and the execution of project tasks.
  • Work with task leads and collaborate with other project managers to ensure specific programmatic and project related deliverables, milestones, reports, marketing publications and presentations and other related work is successfully completed on time, on budget, and within client expectations; and will have some responsibility as primary project manager.
  • Having the ability to propose project work and manage entire projects or project subtasks of $500,000 or more.
  • Work with research principals and directors at EERC to provide information for stakeholders, partners, and clients to inform strategies and implement solutions that enable prudent and economic production and use of fossil energy with reduced carbon intensity and acceptable environmental stewardship.
  • Develop and communicate factual and scientifically derived information on research results and the status of scientific initiatives related prudent carbon dioxide reduction regionally and across the U.S., to industry, academic, and government stakeholders.
  • Work in collaboration with EERC subject matter experts, research principals and directors, and clients to prepare proposals and budgets and to develop, pursue, and execute business opportunities that are responsive to client interests. 
  • Effectively and professionally communicate progress and status to stakeholders by partaking in or leading in-person meetings, web meetings, conference calls, and presentations, and participate in knowledge-sharing with stakeholders by attending or presenting at conferences. 
  • Prepare briefings, technical reports, conference papers, peer-reviewed journal articles, and outreach materials to communicate technical results to clients, stakeholder, the public, and the scientific community.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in geosciences or engineering.
  • 5 years of project management experience in geosciences or engineering-related fields.
  • Experience that shows leadership in working with multiple task leads of a project team; conducting project management, including overseeing entire projects, managing budgets, overseeing and advising technical leads, and working with support staff team leaders (i.e. financial, safety, contractual, etc.) and their groups.
  • Experience and demonstrated skills in technical project reporting including preparing and formatting documents, following federal reporting requirements, assembling quarterly, topical, and final reports; with skills in reviewing content and providing constructive criticism (i.e. on technical project results that align with project objectives).
  • Experience meeting project deadlines for reports, milestones, and other deliverables.
  • Experience working and communicating effectively with stakeholders, partners, and clients and demonstrates the ability to develop new project partners and clients.

Preferred Qualifications
    3 + years of experience conducting or supporting research for federal, state, and/or commercial clients.Experience in proposing and executing research or commercial project work, with full management responsibilities or subtask responsibilities for project work totaling $500,000 or more. Experience in project or subtask management or applied research management related to incremental oil recovery, enhanced oil recovery, and geologic storage of CO2, natural gas and/or hydrogen.  Experience in taking the lead to prepare proposals and budgets and to develop, pursue, and execute business opportunities that are responsive to client interests and funding opportunities.Experience supervising employees, overseeing project leads, providing guidance, recognition, engagement, and evaluations to direct reports.
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$85,000/Exempt; Benefited; Full-time

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with flexibility to accommodate work activities/work life balance. Travel may be required.
