Quality Inspector / Technician - Contract Position

The QA inspector will be part of the National Instruments Manufacturing team tasked with inspection of incoming parts delivery to the warehouse for production builds of automated test and automated measurement systems,matching POs to receipt, verifying the parts meets count, part # and any specific quality requirements. This includes:electronic components, printed circuit boards, substrates - under IPC-600 and IPC-610 industry quality inspection standards. This position will be a contract position based out of the National Instruments office in Santa Clara, CA.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, test, and sample materials or assembled parts or products for defects and deviations from specifications; including incoming, in-process and final inspection. Proficient in use of appropriate mechanical measuring tools.

  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products and recommend necessary corrective actions.

  • Manage the manufacturing test equipment calibration process - work with metrology contractors, and external equipment repair facilities.

  • Maintain the Manufacturing Test Equipment (MTE) calibration database.

  • Manage NISV Product Traveler Filing System

  • Manage MRB (Material Review Board) issues - discard or reject products, materials, and equipment not meeting specifications.

  • Issue appropriate Discrepant Material Report (DMRs) related to discrepant internal/external material and drive closure through appropriate analysis and corrective action.

  • Support New Product Development (NPD) processes by assisting Project Managers on quality related tasks


  • Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

  • High school degree or GRE

  • 3 years' experience as a quality inspector or quality technician


  • Experience with Root Cause problem-solving

  • Experience with Supplier Quality Control


  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with IPC-600 and IPC-610


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Access

  • Inspecting or auditing background a plus

  • Familiarity with SPC (statistical process control) and AQL (acceptable quality limit)and sampling plans
