About the Position:

SMU seeks a dynamic, collaborative, hardworking and hands-on marketing leader with a strategic and consistent approach for the development and support of innovative athletics marketing for its NCAA Division I sports programs.

We are looking for a committed individual who will work to support SMU's student-athletes, coaches and fellow members.

The Assistant Director of Marketing will be responsible for the oversight, formulation, implementation formulate of assigned sports. Reporting to, and supported by the Director of Marketing and Assistant Director of Marketing & Creative Services, the Assistant Director will lead a team that includes three assistant positions and interns with the goal of providing leadership, guidance, and professional growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, execute and communicate marketing (print & digital advertising, ticket sales, data analysis) and gameday experience (game production, fan engagement) of SMU women's basketball, men's & women's soccer, men's & women's swimming and diving, men's & women's golf equestrian, and SMU men's & women's tennis under the direction of the Director of Marketing. Oversight of junior staff. This includes planning, execution, and communication of marketing and gameday experience aspects of Peruna's Pals Kids Club and donation requests programs.
  • Work with coaches, staffs and external cross-functional teams to clearly communicate planning, execution and expectations of marketing and/or gameday experience activities. This includes public relations, Mustang Vision (video), group sales, ticket office, university units, development and game operations. In addition, enhance student and campus awareness to support all athletic events.
  • Various Projects as they relate to SMU Athletics, including coordination for third party design team, campus community relations, office budget, fan requests and printing.
  • Position requires regular evening and weekend work


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's is preferred.

A minimum of one year of work experience is required, preferably in brand marketing or advertising. Work experience in collegiate athletics marketing (print & digital advertising, ticket sales, data analysis) and/or gameday experience (game production, fan engagement) is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team. Must also be willing and able to work in a team atmosphere where expectations are set and managed while giving staff flexibility to do their assigned task as both a leader and/or a follower,

Candidate must possess strong organizational and project management skills to effectively balance multiple projects and deadlines. Must also demonstrate creative problem solving skills with the ability to identify business problems, needs, opportunities, and devise effective solutions. A strong focus on attention to detail for accuracy of data and information is essential.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required. Familiarity with and/or knowledge of PhotoShop and Adobe is desirable. A strong understanding of athletics branding, marketing and advertising principles is strongly preferred.
