The Product Compliance Specialist will be responsible for development and coordination of product regulatory and safety compliance programs to maintain safe and effective textile products, and for promotion of an organizational culture that results in a commitment to compliance with the law, resulting in a positive image to associates, customers, vendors, and the community.

What you will do?


  • You will monitor trends in regulations, standards, and industry guidelines, and help evaluate relevance to company and product interests. You will assess potential impacts and draft action plans to proactively mitigate risks associated with evolving trends.

  • You will develop processes and work with supply chain to implement processes to ensure that all relevant regulatory compliance documentation, such as certifications or certificates of insurance, are obtained and maintained.

  • You will conduct efficient and effective research to maintain a deep understanding of new and existing regulations that may impact the organization's products and processes. You will become the in-house expert on laws, rules, and regulations that affect the company's product portfolio.

  • You will transform research results into clear, documented protocols: to analyze available information, interpret, determine impact on products, and synthesize into a consumable format for team members to assure ongoing compliance.

  • You will understand and support the product development process to ensure compliance every step of the way, including research, manufacturing practices, regulations, and approval processes. You will stay current on customer product and processing needs as it relates to product safety during product handling, use, and laundering.

  • You will develop and maintain documentation detailing governance and requirements for compliance; maintain a current document library with relevant legislation and regulations relating to product safety standards, warning labels, research summaries, data for future reference, guidance documents, etc.

  • You will provide training or explanation of regulations, procedures, and policies to other members of the Regulatory Dept. and to cross-functional partners as appropriate.

  • You will maintain a process to identify the chemistry used for manufactured, contracted, and sourced textiles (Chemicals of Concern). Develop, update and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for manufactured items.

  • You will assist with product testing from qualified 3rd party labs capable of testing and reporting product safety results.

  • You will support the technical specification process by detailing safety and labeling requirements for products.

  • You will establish and conduct internal audits for products and protocols to verify product compliance and to identify areas of weakness and put in place corrective measures.

  • You will maintain and regularly report KPI's on compliance status and critical regulatory measures.

  • You will report to the Regulatory Leadership Committee on product compliance including areas for improvement. You will recommend courses of remediation to help the company achieve the necessary levels of compliance.

  • You will respond to questions and complete product safety-related inquiries from customers, sales, and technical personnel.

  • You will engage regularly with regulatory agencies and industry trade associations to monitor regulatory activities, predict future regulatory trends, and to influence rulemaking activity.

  • You will collaborate with team members globally to share best practices and new solutions to product safety and regulatory compliance issues.

  • You will write and distribute white papers of relevant compliance topics.


Qualifications Include:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field; a degree in chemistry, biology or life sciences is helpful, and regulatory affairs is also relevant.

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of related experience. More than five years preferred.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and regulatory literature and journals, and governmental legislation and regulations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and the ability to learn new concepts quickly.

  • Ability to work with both internal and external customers as needed.

  • Proven experience effectively presenting information in written form, or for presentation to management, employees, customers, or regulatory agencies.

  • Fast learner who embraces and effectively adapts to change.

  • Proficient at using Microsoft business products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

  • Ability to travel as necessary 5-10%.


Preferred:

  • Knowledge of textiles: regulatory compliance (i.e., fabric flammability, Code of Federal Regulations, and/or other product safety related standards), textile testing methods, finishing processes, etc.

  • Strong leadership skills, ability to mentor and support associates to drive continued growth.
