Eurofins is searching for a Principal Scientist in Philadelphia, PA.

This Principal Scientist position will assume the role of technical expert in developing and evaluating innovative solutions for bioprocessing of proteins from natural sources. Apply creative solutions from various industries to bioprocessing for proteins. This position is responsible for executing or leading studies in support of R&D process development, process improvement, and/or PAT evaluation.

Principal Scientist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :

• Responsible for being the technical expert by collaborating with other departments, external research groups, external vendors, and leading technical development projects.

• Responsible for maintaining an advanced level of documentation and communication through timely and thorough drafting and execution of protocols, reports, and experimental summaries in support of protein processing technology evaluation activities.

• Responsible for coordinating scientific and investigative studies through collaboration with internal customers & external R&D groups within the company. Think creatively and provide technical justification for novel concepts and approaches.

• Keep a high level of scientific excellence by regularly attending regional and national technical meetings, and publish in peer-reviewed journals whenever possible.

• Anticipate potential problems and design preventative, innovative solutions. Maintain a high awareness of production processes and be proactive in introducing improvements for product yield or quality.

• Responsible for performing fundamental literature & patent searches related to activities and develop alternative strategies, if necessary.

• Research on projects to determine logistical impact & to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry guidelines, master plans, and company policies and procedures.

• Evaluate, purchase, install, and operate various process and analytical equipment. Responsible for maintaining equipment and calibrations.

• Actively seek new opportunities, contribute key ideas to projects, and promote area of expertise to achieve results through participating in national and international organizations that influence industry standards and FDA policies.

• Effectively demonstrate the ability to think creatively and provide technical justification for novel concepts and approaches. Anticipate potential problems and design solutions.

• Responsible for mentoring, providing guidance, and training less senior personnel. Assume a leadership role in providing solutions to difficult problems associated with specific projects.

The ideal candidate would possess :

• Knowledge and competency in a wide range of protein biochemistry, protein purification techniques, and analytical methodologies.

• Broad range of knowledge across the fields of biochemistry and purification with depth of knowledge in at least one of the aforementioned areas.

• Experience with process development.

• Experience in collaboration with groups inside and outside the company.

• Demonstrated success in developing new technology/methodology.

• Experience or knowledge in the fields of mechanical or chemical engineering.

• Experience working in Agile environment using the Scrum methodology or similar a plus.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Leadership, coaching and mentoring skills needed to facilitate knowledge sharing.

• Fully proficient in functional/technical problem solving, time management, and proven organizational and interpersonal skills.

• Strong problem solving abilities, creativity, and efficient time management.

• Cross-cultural-sensitivity, action-orientated, standing alone, perseverance, learning on the fly.

Basic Minimum Qualifications :

• BS/BA with 5 to 8 years of experience, MS/MA with +3 years of experience, or a Ph.D. with 0 to 2 yrs.

• Analytical and conceptual thinking and efficient use of networking, and decisiveness is required

• Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Position is full-time, Monday - Friday, full-time. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Philadelphia, PA are encouraged to apply.
