HORIBA Automotive, a business segment within the HORIBA Group, has developed global leadership in the fields of battery, fuel cell and electrolyzer test stands, data management solutions, driveline test systems, engine test systems, brake test systems, wind tunnel balances, emissions test systems and test facility automation. In addition to its product-based applications, it offers a comprehensive suite of vehicle engineering, validation and certification services. HORIBA Automotive is able to offer its customers complete solutions, with full turnkey capability, for all industries using electric motors, internal combustion engines and turbines. These include the automotive, heavy-duty, off-road, consumer goods, marine, defense, aerospace and rail sectors.

HORIBA Automotive group is recruiting for a Principal Engineer, Fuel Cell & Battery based out of our Ann Arbor, MI office. This position will bring subject matter expertise on fuel cell, electrolyzer, and battery technology to HORIBA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and industry expertise in the general areas of fuel cell, electrolyzer, and battery technology and testing of these technologies, primarily focused on automotive applications, but also considering wider industrial or commercial applications.
  • Supports other functions in HORIBA such as sales, marketing, engineering and proposal preparation with subject matter expertise.
  • Establishes effective two-way communications with counterparts in other HORIBA group companies to share expertise and stay up to date with both technical and company developments.
  • Maintains current state of expertise by following industry trends, developments and regulations using approaches including (but not limited to), reading technical journals and papers, attending industry conferences, visiting commercial companies and universities engaged in relevant research.
  • Understands and complies with HORIBA health & safety, environmental, quality and other process such as CAPA and Blackjack. Demonstrates support for and actively participates in the HORIBA continuous improvement philosophy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline such as chemistry, chemical or electrical engineering or a related subject; or equivalent experience. An advanced degree (technical and/or MBA) would be an advantage.
  • At least 5 years' experience in battery, fuel cell, and/or electrolyzer development and test environment
  • Ability to read & interpret electrical, mechanical and other engineering drawings as well as other technical information
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and professional manner in both written and verbal forms at a wide range of levels both technical and executive

Knowledge Of:

  • Automotive battery, fuel cell and electroyzer technology and development trends
  • Automotive battery and fuel cell system testing, and electrolyzer test procedures
  • HORIBA test equipment and processes (after an appropriate time in position)
