Work Location : UHealth Tower

Shift: 7p-7a Night Shift

Oversees patient flow through designated clinical areas. Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care, enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements, and to other governing agency regulations, and measuring health outcomes against standards. Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff. Completes patient care requirements by assigning nursing and staff. Maintains nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their friends and families. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching, and counseling patients, and reinforcing patients' understanding of disease, medications, and self-care. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing related procedures, rules, and regulations. Accounts for the collection of data to ensure performance improvement and optimal customer service standards. Assures all staff meet mandatory continuing education requirements and yearly hospital-based competencies Provides insight on the unit(s) operations to nursing leadership to assist in the development of strategic planning and departmental expansion. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Registered Nurse Licensure (RN)

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of business and management principles
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM - EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Department Specific Functions

Routinely reviews reports such as employee satisfaction results, turnover, exit interviews, and other metrics related employee engagement. Recognizes team members for great performance and contributes to the retention of staff by providing supportive and mentoring relationships. Responsible for the ongoing improvement of quality and performance metrics including, but not limited to: emergency department specific core measures, safety initiatives and the patient experience, evidence by daily rounding on patients to assess for appropriate care, and the utilization of the iRounding tool for patient satisfaction. Monitors and evaluates service indicators in collaboration with related team members, as evidenced by active involvement in patient experience committees and implementation of new processes. Advocates and involves multi-disciplinary team when major changes are planned, utilizing shared governance model to communicate information. Takes the lead in working with the Labor Management Partnership team in developing staffing efficiencies, service excellence, employee satisfaction and continuous improvement in quality outcomes. Cultivates and sustains a culture of innovation, continual learning and accountability. Partners with other disciplines to drive and sustain positive change within the unit. Design and implements flexible staffing models that assure the provision of adequate staff to care for patients while meeting unit targeted productivity. Accountable for providing a professional environment that is physically, emotionally and psychologically safe for nurses.

Advanced Practice Nurse Specific Functions (as needed)

Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories. Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's age-specific needs. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability. Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations. Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitates the patient's transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Qualifications

Education:

Master's degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Valid State of Florida APRN License

May hold DEA License if deemed necessary and appropriate by department

Hold current and valid BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification from American Heart Association

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
