Job Summary

WHIO-TV is looking for strong, passionate and energetic journalist to join the #1 ranked CBS affiliate in America and the home of the nation's highest rated newscasts! We are looking for an experienced line producer with top-notch writing skills and solid news judgment, who can create compelling newscasts with innovative showcasing. You must be a Rockstar in the control room during live continuous coverage of breaking news and severe weather. You must be able to work closely and collaboratively with reporters, anchors, managers, newscast directors, graphic artists and digital content producers to deliver great storytelling, memorable newscasts which hold viewers and drive viewers to and from our digital content. The Producer will report to the Executive Producer and possess excellent communication skills and will come to work each day with a great attitude and a spirit of teamwork. You'll have the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art, one of a kind cross platform newsroom, working closely with TV, digital, radio and print journalists.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Excellent conversational writing skills to deliver clear, easy to understand content that is balanced and unbiased
  • Accuracy in both facts, grammar and spelling are required
  • Must display a sense of urgency and passion to get breaking news and fresh content on TV
  • Must be able to work in high-pressure, deadline driven environment
  • Ability to make quick decisions, exhibit strong control room skills to lead live continuous coverage of severe weather and breaking news
  • Contributes to finding pacers for their newscast to incorporate coverage of our entire viewing area
  • Must be able to creatively showcase stories and talent to deliver compelling, well-paced content throughout the newscast
  • Must incorporate strategies and initiatives based on audience research as assigned by Managing Editor, Executive Producer or News Director
  • Must be flexible in scheduling because of the changing needs of news events, including working overtime and being on call, and handle other assignments as needed.
  • Actively participate in editorial meetings and pitch story ideas
  • May be asked to write, produce special reports or broadcasts and digital copy
  • Excellent time management skills are a must, with the ability to prioritize tasks


What we look for

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related coursework required
  • 1-2 years of TV newscast line producing preferred
  • Thorough understanding of newsroom systems, including iNews, Newsticker, Chyron and non-linear editing, is a plus.
