Job Description

Focus on the stability, integrity and availability of in-house networks, servers, systems and connected devices. This is achieved by acting as a functional resource, working on network, security, or voice related tasks, projects and day to day support. In addition, the Systems Engineer - Network will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve escalated network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.

  1. Configure systems and networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.

  2. With minimal supervision, conduct daily support of network and end-user systems to maintain service level objectives

  3. Team member for planning, testing, implementing and documenting system, OS and hardware upgrades, enhancements and patches

  4. Work with end users to identify and deliver required service levels.

  5. Liaise with, and provide training and support to end users and staff on network operation and other issues.

  6. Assist in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring PC, server, system and network performance.

  7. Accurately document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal.

  8. Evaluate and recommend hardware products for purchase.

  9. Support development and implementation of new projects and hardware installations.

  10. Monitor network and system performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.

  11. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.

  12. Ensure connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephone systems, fax machines, and other network appliances.

  13. Monitor and test network and system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or business area

  • Four or more years in a large company supporting mission critical applications

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Expertise with Cisco routers and switches, Windows desktop and server operating systems, and PC hardware

  • Knowledge of Novell network operating systems, MS SQL

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol, Symantec Antivirus

  • Knowledge of Lotus Notes, SMTP, POP, IMAP and BES

  • Familiarity with network management and monitoring

  • Ability to work with multiple priorities and changing schedules with minimal oversight

  • On-call availability for one week per month and as needed.

  • Four or more years in a large company supporting mission critical applications
