Summary:

Under the direction of the Operations Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer provides technical support for projects, tasks, and strategic objectives of the Operations Mechanical Engineering department. These objectives require focus on:

  • Engineering principles
  • Problem solving
  • failure mode analysis (design, process, molds and equipment)
  • corrective action of mold tooling, injection molding presses, process equipment and instruments
  • engineering and quality documentation development

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, design, develop and execute production improvement projects including all necessary documentation under guidance of a more experienced engineer.
  • Design and implement processes, mechanical tests, and fixtures for molding, inspection and testing to improve product quality, increase productivity or reduce costs.
  • Write, review and perform validation (ex. IQ/OQ/PQ) protocols and reports for all new or modified production equipment.
  • Support and develop injection molding processes / manufacturing procedures for new equipment and processes.
  • Execute experiments, test plans, protocols, and reports to ensure designs meet product and part specifications, regulatory requirements, and applicable standards for new equipment and processes.
  • Support engineering projects with various component and automation vendors.
  • Support and develop processes and equipment, including requirements gathering and authoring, in support of scale-up / automation projects.
  • Hands on investigation, testing, and statistical analysis of current production equipment and/or process issues.
  • Collaborates and communicates with cross functional departments as needed.
  • Develops and maintains project timelines under guidance of engineering and leadership and provides updates and feedback to project leadership.
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews.
  • Accomplishes tasks while conforming to the company quality system procedures.
  • This position assumes and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Moderate knowledge of CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience working in a mechanical lab using various test equipment and fixtures.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and personal interaction skills for interfacing with peers in other departments.
  • Self-motivated and self-managed with a high degree of analytical ability and intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize projects, and maintain timelines.
  • Ability to remain adaptable and flexible in a changing environment.
  • Detail oriented and organized.

Functional Description

Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, equipment and packaging. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation.

  • Applies basic technical understanding with the knowledge to develop process and design experiments. Possesses theoretical knowledge, but is learning the industry and requirements of applied science. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies.

  • Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency. Works on problems of basic scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of data factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
  • Normally receives instructions on all work and work output it supervised.

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 0-2 years related experience.
