Job Overview

The Material Buyer translates the systematic Material Requirements Plan (MRP) into timely receipt of materials while balancing product availability and optimal inventory. This role is responsible for ensuring raw material inflow and availability in production to support planned schedules and customer commitments on limited time offer (LTO), everyday assortments and transitioning programs. Ensuring raw materials are flowing in and available are critical in satisfying our customer commitments for core, new, and limited time products alike.

Responsibilities

  • Executes raw material purchasing activities to ensure supply meets MRP "planned order" requirements to support internal manufacturing and services on-time delivery of raw materials through an organized purchasing process.
  • Places all purchase orders while taking the following into consideration: capacity and space constraints, lead time, raw material availability, and staffing.
  • Maintains responsibility for all aspects of order placement and day to day vendor management of assigned materials.
  • Verifies bill of material (BOM) setup is complete and accurate.
  • Identifies risks and ensures disconnects such as anticipated product shortages are continuously monitored, resolved, and communicated to the business as needed. Supports development of risk mitigation with Production Scheduling.
  • Tracks and reports vendor performance measure; escalates supplier challenges and performance gaps to Corporate Procurement for evaluation.
  • Partners with suppliers who have floor stock agreements to minimize lead times and on hand inventory where applicable.
  • Focuses on driving down the overall raw material costs through freight and order consolidation optimization, material liability and cost of managing materials.
  • Supports management and execution of program wind down and transition which impact raw material flows to minimize obsolescence costs.
  • Ensures systematic inventory policies and parameters are based on all known constraints (space limitations, min/max, ordering minimums/increments, lead times, etc.).


  • Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements
    • 2+ years of purchasing/supply chain experience is required.
    • 3-5 years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
    • Experience within the consumer-packaged goods industry is preferred.

    Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field is required.
    • APICS Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certification preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Experience utilizing an MRP/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system preferred.
    • Ability to work with and learn new systems.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
