SIQ Engineering Manager

SpaceIQ Engineering Department is a high-performance culture marked by boldness and an appetite for productivity. We are looking for an Engineering Manager that will lead our SiQ engineering team of 15 engineers split between (Frontend, Backend, QA)

  • You and your team will be building an industry-changing, innovative, and intuitive suite of workplace management applications such as space planning, move management, reporting, and many more using our microservices-based architecture.
  • You will do this by working with our Product team to deliver user-friendly solutions to complex, highly interactive functionality including the display of digital floor plans, management of business processes, and representation of diverse, multi-dimensional data.
  • You should be able to adapt easily to meet the needs of our massive growth and rapidly evolving business environment.
  • You will work in a dynamic environment, integrating multiple scalable, reliable, and secure platforms into several products.

Summary:
  • You will be reporting to the VP of Engineering
  • You have worked as a senior developer and have deep experience with at least one modern programming language (Ruby on Rails, Scala, JavaScript)
  • You understand how to both scope and problem solve both frontend and backend projects
  • You know how to manage engineers to deliver audacious projects consistently and sustainably
  • You know how to mentor and coach exceptional engineers from junior to lead developers
  • You have led agile development teams and know how to balance delivery and team energy
  • You have helped build a strong engineering team culture and you love recruiting and hiring.
  • You have worked in the cross-functional environment with other Product teams to define a roadmap for a feature and operating improvements.
  • This is an extremely hands-on role requiring equal adeptness in communication and project management as well as deep technical ability in solving complex technical challenges.
  • You drive engineering excellence by participating in code reviews, technical designs, and evangelizing best engineering practices.
  • 5+ years of increasing responsibility roles in a fast-moving technology organization.
  • 5+ years of managing large-scale systems development.
  • Hands on experience with one or many languages: Ruby on Rails/ Scala / Kotlin.
  • Knowledge of the frontend stack (JavaScript / Typescript / React / GraphQL / Flux / Redux / HTML / CSS) is a huge plus
  • Strong fundamentals in Object-Oriented and Functional programming, best practices, and testing methodologies
  • Experience building highly scalable, maintainable, robust, and fault-tolerant services.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL (PostgreSQL) and relational databases
  • Experience with scalable solutions using big-data streaming, event-based, or pub/sub technologies (Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Redis / Elastic Cache) -- highly desired.
  • Experience with the AWS ecosystem, containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD
  • In-depth knowledge of build/release systems, CI/CD systems (Buildkite, Codefresh, CircleCI, etc.)
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Datadog, Prometheus, StatusCake, Sentry, New Relic.
  • Experience with modern web services architectures and databases.
  • Experience with Git
  • Ability to quickly learn new and existing technologies.
  • Willingness to take responsibility, accountability, and ownership.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal working hours to complete mission critical tasks.
  • Outstanding communication and influencing abilities, paired with strong team leadership.
  • BS in Computer Science or Equivalent Experience
