OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The Duke Neuropsychiatric Brain Bank is a repository of postmortem human brain tissue for the study of stress-related disorders. The applicant must have experience in conducting a variety of independent investigations, including planning, development, and implementation of procedures within the overall scope of a project.

Responsibilities:

· Process, dissect, and preserve brain tissue for a variety of experimental applications

· Manage the receipt, distribution, and utilization of biological specimens

· Conduct experiments related to quality control assessment of samples, including DNA and RNA isolation; PCR

· Manage laboratory information management systems

· Oversee laboratory workflow and manage progression of multiple research projects

· Supervise and train students and lab personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures.

· Maintain laboratory equipment and scheduled maintenance

· Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills

· Must be able to work in a team-based laboratory and be able to communicate effectively

· Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education

· Work requires a bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, or other science

related scientific field.

Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years

of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.

Background in neuroscience is preferred

Required Qualifications at this LevelEducation/Training

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
