Job Description

Remote: This option does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis.

As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will support fire protection activities for General Motors to identify risk and implement protective measures to reduce the identified risks. Providing fire protection solutions for new manufacturing technologies will be a priority. You will coach and consult with security operations personnel and business unit and site leadership, and implement corporate security policy and standards.

In this role you would:

Assure that General Motors sites are following federal, state and local laws and GM fire protection standards. Research model and local codes, as well as nationally recognized standards to assist in compliance.

Provide technical expertise and subject matter guidance by assisting and supporting GM and supplier personnel to ensure compliance with General Motors fire protection standards. A key focus will be providing fire protection solutions for new manufacturing technology including electrical vehicles.

Develop and coordinates strategic goals and objectives relevant to fire prevention & protection.

Perform combustible/flammable materials assessments for storage, manufacturing and non-manufacturing facilities

Liaisons with the following General Motors personnel for conflict resolution, and standards and policy interpretations:

  • Security
  • Environmental
  • Sustainable Workplaces
  • IT
  • Health and Safety
  • Manufacturing
  • Risk Management

Coordinate the abatement of non-compliance issues.

Provide quality assurance and subject matter expertise for General Motors for inspection, testing, and maintenance of fixed and portable fire protection equipment.

Develop training material for hazards and risks at GM facilities and present fire protection solutions and alternatives to GM leadership and sites.

Review fire losses and develop lessons learned to mitigate or prevent reoccurrence.

Update existing GM Fire Prevention and Protection standards and guidelines. Ensure new manufacturing and storage hazards and risks are properly evaluated and mitigating factors are documented.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Engineering , Bachelor of Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

Minimum of 5 years' experience in developing processes, training and actively participating in fire prevention and protection activities including experience as a property loss control engineer. Experienced in performing the following:
  • Assessing fire protection requirements
  • Interpreting local laws, regulations and codes including National Fire Protection Association Codes, Factory Mutual Data Sheets, and the International Fire Code.
  • Reviewing building and site plans, fire suppression and detection systems
  • Performing engineering computations (hydraulic calculations)
  • Experience in writing technical procedures

Familiarity with industrial physical security operations.

Excellent planning and organizing skills.

Strong negotiating skills.

Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.

Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office® software applications.

The median level of salary compensation for this role is $109,283.00
