Basic Job Functions:

The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for interacting with the Nucor Team to assist development, growth and improvement of the NS Texas Environmental Program. They will assist with coordination of compliance with air, water, waste and radiation permits, licenses, rules, regulations and programs. Additional duties include taking a lead role in plant-wide environmental project management, training, audits, and community outreach.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Supports environmental aspects of plant operations, such as, compliance, reporting, monitoring, remediation, and environmental permitting functions.
  • Assist the plant in maintaining compliance with Air, Water, and Waste regulations, tank management, emergency plans, and ISO 14001 environmental management system.
  • Conduct periodic audits of waste disposal facilities and other sister locations to assure compliance and uncover potential problems.
  • Submit required environmental reports to agencies including but not limited to: Air Emissions Inventory, semiannual Title V deviation reports, Annual Waste Summary, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), discharge monitoring reports (DMRs).
  • Assist in the development and preparation of applications, registrations, etc. for air quality authorizations, which may include PBRs, PSD and Title V permits.
  • Interact with various Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies on permitting, compliance, and facility inspections.
  • Participate on or lead multi-disciplinary teams charged with securing environmental permits for expansion projects.
  • Learn and understand the steel manufacturing process.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in Engineering, Environmental or other related science; or equivalent work experience in a technical-related field.
  • 1-3 years of environmental compliance experience in an industrial setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in utilizing computer resources to maximize effectiveness and efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years' experience with environmental program management and compliance.
  • Title V air permitting experience.
  • Previous steel manufacturing knowledge and experience with EAF Baghouses, CEMS, Water Systems, and managing large quantity generator (LQG) sites.
