TITLE: Engineering Project Manager

STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Plant Engineering Manager

DESCRIPTION:

Overall Coordination of engineering, projects and systems to support the manufacturing operations in meeting and/or exceeding established goals.

Essential Functions:


* Provide strong leadership skills in successfully leading projects from start to completion without frequent direct supervision. Responsible for reporting activities and results to management as required.
* Utilizes AWC Project Management roadmap, processes, templates and tools to track all aspects of Capital Projects along with document control. Types of projects include equipment replacement/upgrade, new application of technologies, and process and equipment development.
* Identifies, develops, plans, and implements capital projects as needed.
* Provide leadership in planning, directing and supervision of engineering and plant personnel in support of ongoing operations and projects. Responsibilities include new product and process implementations and continuous improvement.
* Support the plant operations by defining improved process flows and continual improvement efforts.
* Support and lead cross functional teams as well as interact with all levels of employees, external vendors and customers.
* Conducts Capacity Modeling and equipment capability studies.
* Actively participate on assigned teams and/or projects.
* Provide a safe and productive work environment, including housekeeping.
* Role model CITE and Working in Teams principles.
* Perform other tasks as directed by direct supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May supervise hourly and salaried employees in the assigned department and/or departments. If so, this position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employee; addressing complaints and resolving problems.



QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

Education, Experience, and Skills:


* Bachelor's degree in Engineering; electrical or mechanical desired, but other disciplines will be considered.
* Computer aided drafting required. AutoCAD preferred with Inventor proficiency a plus.
* Minimum of 6 years of manufacturing engineering experience; wood related preferred.
* Must have experience in material flows, continuous improvement practices; and process analysis.
* CNC programming experience is highly preferred but not required.
* Six Sigma and or lean training is a plus
* Strong planning/Organization & Time Management skills
* Completion of a variety of capital projects in an industrial setting
* Demonstrated project management/leadership roles with complete project ownership
* Experience managing internal maintenance staff and external contractors on a project basis
* Previous experience with complying with regulated environments (i.e. OSHA, EPA).



Communications Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and technical journals and financial reports. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with customers/clients in an effort to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers/clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and public. Ability to develop presentations to be delivered to production team, plant level team, or public groups.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication or division to basic manufacturing performance recording or financial performance recording. Ability to read and use a tape measure.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment:

Typical office environment with a low to medium noise level. Periodic travel to manufacturing locations where the noise level is usually moderate to high and hearing protection may be required on the production floor. Safety glasses are required on the production floor. Some out-of-town travel is required. Occasional weekend work required.
