Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Walmart seeks to lead on Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practices, disclosures and outcomes, building a stronger and more resilient business, creating shared value, and supporting Walmart's goal to become a regenerative company.

The Director, Strategic Initiatives - Corporate Affairs - ESG Strategy & Engagement is responsible for leading a defined set of priority ESG issues, including shaping Walmart's ESG agenda; elevating Walmart's ESG disclosures, practices and ratings; building corresponding institutional capability across the enterprise; and helping to advance the field of ESG externally with respect to that issue set.

This position will lead an issue set centered on Walmart's Human Capital and Equity & Inclusion strategies.

You'll make an impact by:

  • Defining and driving Walmart's ESG agenda for a defined set of priority ESG issues. Engage in strategic planning and collaborate with relevant subject-matter experts to define Walmart's aspiration; key goals and metrics; ESG approach; policies, practices, and disclosures; and challenges for each issue you oversee.
  • Being Walmart's ESG subject matter expert for a defined set of priority ESG issues. Stay abreast of the latest developments on the topic and own policies, programs, processes, and projects related to ESG aspects of your issues. Maintain a robust network of peers and collaborators across the company and engage with external peers and experts on your issues to bring leading thinking back to Walmart.
  • Leading cross-functional workstreams designed to achieve certain policy, practice, and disclosure outcomes within your defined set of priority ESG issues, including deeper analyses to improve the company's understanding of the issue, risks, performance, etc.
  • Shaping disclosures and reporting on a defined set of priority ESG issues for investor and other stakeholder audiences. Develop ESG messaging and work with other members of the ESG team, Investor Relations, and Corporate Communications on the strategy to reach target audiences, including through the ESG Report, direct investor and other stakeholder engagement, and other channels.
  • Helping to advance the ESG disclosure and assessment sector within your defined set of priority ESG issues, including advocating for ESG frameworks, standards and assessments that foster long-termism, creation of shared value ("stakeholder capitalism"), and the transformation of societal systems for social and environmental sustainability. Identify and speak at external ESG events to highlight Walmart's shared value strategy as well as share perspectives on best practice for a defined set of priority ESG issues.
  • Improving Walmart's performance on priority external ESG assessments. Identify opportunities to improve performance with respect to company practices, policies, and disclosures and understand trends in ESG disclosures and implications for Walmart ESG disclosures.
  • Managing multiple large, complex projects, processes, and programs that include dependencies across multiple groups, including internal and external stakeholders to identify goals, success criteria assumptions, and risks.
  • Driving the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
  • Managing the measurement and reporting of company strategic initiative outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications...
