This position supports our healthcare professional liability line of business.

Preference is for the position to be based in Birmingham AL. Internal candidates can also be based in one of our regional office locations, and external candidates will be based in our Birmingham AL office only.

The primary responsibility of the Credentialing Specialist position is to respond to requests and inquiries from insureds, agents, employees, and 3rd parties through phone calls, e-mails and faxes. The Credentialing Specialist should demonstrate outstanding customer service skills and foster positive relationships with insureds, agents, and internal customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

50% - Respond to requests for Certificates of Insurance ("COI"), Claims Histories and Loss Runs from insureds, agents, employees, and 3rd parties through phone calls, e-mails or faxes, demonstrating outstanding customer service skills with accuracy and timeliness. Process includes:

  • Research insured's policy information through eOasis/Oasis Policy and CIS.
  • Print Authorization forms, if applicable, in ImageRight.
  • Update necessary information in CIS for COI Holder.
  • Update eOasis/Oasis COI Holder section of policy.
  • Research file notes and exception list prior to running applicable report in eOasis/Oasis or CAT.
  • Update status of request.

20% - Prepare COI for unscheduled policies, confirming insured's retro date and limits for applicable state.

10% - Prepare Hospital & Facilities COI's while working closely with UW's to confirm policy terms and limits.

10% - Work closely with Policy Specialists, UW's, and Agents as needed when processing requests.

5% - Respond to Specialty requests, including Misc Medical and Ascension.

Secondary Responsibilities:

3% - Be a resource for exception processing.

2% - Identify and suggest process improvements, and complete and/or manage special projects and other duties/responsibilities as directed by management.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years' related experience or customer service experience.
  • Critical thinking skills and time management skills are essential.
  • Dependable and detail oriented.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to accomplish multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
